Hillstonia Pottery Website
In business for 50 years, the MOIRA POTTERY COMPANY was known for their popular HILLSTONIA. The company started in 1922 making jam jars and progressed to making more specialist pottery such as Hillstonia mostly between the years of 1934 and 1972. Hillstonia was decorative ware for bulbs & plants, mostly handmade and is glazed inside and unglazed outside. The company was situated approx 8kms from Burton on Trent - which is in the borough of Staffordshire in the Midlands. The pottery was closed in 1972, demolished and the ground it stood on excavated for the coal reserves underneath it. After the coal was extracted the whole area was 'reclaimed' and is now part of an area known as the National Forest.
